another type of MEME
1) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, liposuction and air conditioning.
2) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
3) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
4) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
5) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
6) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.
7) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
8) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.
9) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
10) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans...
---Re-post this if you believe in legalizing gay marriage

I never could get the hang of Thursdays
ugh - I am sick, tired and achey today. I have had a migraine and migraine hangover since Saturday - this has progressed into a head cold/sinus mess and I am feeling miserable. My boss is on vacation this week so calling in sick is not an option.
The only thing left to do is post some eye candy. Looky what came in the mail yesterday:
lace wt tencel/cotton from Mystical Creations the color is vanilla & this
fingering wt merino also from Mystical Creations in peach harvest.
I feel much better just looking at them! Anyone have any suggestions for the tencel? I have never used anything this fine before or in this fiber. The wool is gorgeous - soft and warm and the colors - beautiful! I am definitely going to order from them again.
I have been reading many blogs and have seen beautiful pictures of peoples gardens (especially Norma's) so I thought I would post a picture of mine - it is hard work, but the rewards of gardening are so worth it:
Isn't it great - the only thing I have not killed!
I also cast on for another project (surprise, surprise knitting ADD strikes again) - I am knitting this in this - here is a pic of the first few rows - I am hoping to finish this in time to wear to Rhinebeck.
It is a simple pattern and an easily remembered stitch, minimal shaping and small pieces - if I knit every day - I am pretty sure I will have it done in time. I finished about 5 inches last night so I am almost up to the armhole shaping.
Well my head is pounding and my nose is running and my lunch is almost over - so it is back to work for me.

more pictures
I thought I would post some pictures of the things I picked up on vacation -
This is the Cascade 220 I am using to make the featherweight fantasy from a Shawls and Scarves
I bought this to make the lace dream in the same book
This is the LL Shepherd Sock I bought at Needlepoint Joint in Ogden
I received a package in the mail yesterday - this is what was in it:
It is the scarf from my swap partner Fiona from Celia's scarf exchange - I LOVE this - If it wasn't 85 degrees out I would wear it now.

Arrr!!!
My pirate name is:
Mad Charity Bonney
Every pirate is a little bit crazy. You, though, are more than just a little bit. You can be a little bit unpredictable, but a pirate's life is far from full of certainties, so that fits in pretty well. Arr!

Home now
Well I'm back - vacation was wonderful! We got home Sat morning at 5:10 am grabbed a cab (for once our luggage was not the last off the plane) and went straight to bed. When I finally woke up, I spent all day going through my email. Even after going no mail on all my lists, I had over 500 email + another 150 from work.
I really enjoyed this trip - David and I had a blast! He surprised me with a plane/helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon which was awesome - literally awe-inspiring! We had a grand time in Vegas - we actually won about $50. I went to a LYS (Gail's) and bought some Cascade 220 in an olive green that I am using for the Candle Flame stole (the cotton/alpaca wasn't working) and some Karabella Lace mohair for the Peacock stitch stole in the same book. From Vegas we drove across Nevada into Utah to Zion - this is one of the most beautiful and peaceful places I have ever been. After driving through the desert seeing the beautiful greenery and majestic mountains - it is easy to see why the early visitors believed they had found Zion.
The Court of the Patriarchs
I wish we had spent more time there - we are already making plans to go back with the boys.
From there we headed across the State to Monument Valley
stopping along the way to take pictures and look at trains.
We drove north through Utah to Ogden - where we stayed (There is a wonderful LYS there - the Needlepoint Joint - spent much good time there!) From there we drove into SLC and the surrounding area. I even got to meet Margene & Laurie and the other wonderful knitters at their SnB - I was hoping to meet Susan too, but she was ill and couldn't be there.
We did all the touristy things - walked around SLC - visited Temple Square, antelope Island, watched lots of trains - even went to Promontory Summit (where the golden spike that joined the railroad from the East Coast & West Coast had been), visited a copper mine and put mucho miles on the rent a car.
On our last day we drove to Wyoming and Idaho - that made 6 states seen on this trip CA, NV, AZ, UT, WY & ID. Talk about a road trip! I leave you with this picture I took of David and I at the Visitor Center in Echo, UT
If you want to see all my pictures you can go here for my photo album.

Give a little bit, give a little bit of your time to me
In case you havent seen this yet:
click here for more info and here to donate.
I am going to Rhinebeck! I made my reservations yesterday for the bus trip run by the Yarn Tree - I have planned to go for the last 2 years but something always comes up and I never get around to it. This year though I planned ahead and I will be there! Who else is going? It would be fun to meet up with others bloggers - I met so many great people in MD.
I don't know if I will be blogging again till after vacation so everyone take care - do what you can to help those affected by Katrina and enjoy all the blessings you have.

opinions required
I finished the mohair scarf for Celia's scarf exchange - see:
and a close-up:
What do you think? It needs to be blocked - I like it, but I need a second opinion.

The good times are not rolling
I have been so moved by the nightmare brought on by quatrain - it seems so unbelievable that in this day and age so much devastation can be caused by a storm. You read about ancient cities that where destroyed by floods but you never realize that it could happen to you today.
One of the best weekends of my life was spent with friends in NO - we all flew in an met there on a Thursday night. These were friends Marilyn & I had met earlier on a trip to Mexico - they were from Lafayette LA and we had so much fun with them we planned another get together in NO. My memories of that weekend are of music, and food and laughter - so different from the pictures I see on my TV. My thoughts and prayers go out to everyone effected by this tragedy.
My company company has increased it Matching Gifts Program to 4 to 1 for every donation to the Red Cross - I mailed in my this morning this way my $25 donation will be $125 with the matching donation from work. That is one thing I have always liked about this company - they are quick to provide help in many different ways during crisis' and times of need.
My own problems seem small and insignificant when compared to what is happening down south, still I am pleased that my mother was happy staying at the respite center overnight and is looking forward to spending the 2 weeks I am away there. I need to arrange for someone to drop her off on Tuesday morning and the following Monday morning - she won't be staying over the weekend - but otherwise I can go away and not have to worry about her while I am gone.
I want to thank everyone who has left me a comment or sent me an email about this - I appreciate all your kinds words and thoughts. If I haven't responded - it is just because I am still a little overwhelmed and short on time, but I am grateful to all of you.
A few people asked where the candleflame stole pattern could be found - it is in Shawls & Scarves - it doesn't look like much in the book, but when I saw the one made by Small Hands I knew I had to make it.
My Peacock Feathers shawl pattern came yesterday - I am planning on using the copper Zephyr for this. I also bought the FBS pattern cause I can't find the magazine with it in it and I like the way the pattern is printed - easier to use than the photostat from the magazine.
