RAOK Goodie

Just want to shout out to Dani - she sent me a wonderful ROAK - Knitting Lessons .

She sent a note saying she thought I could use a pick me up after all the car problems this week. I really appreciate the thoughtfulness.

The car is currently running well - occasionally it still feels a little wonky, but David said that sometimes it takes a while for the computer to reset it self completely so I am not going to panic for at least a week. Thanks to everyone for the kind thoughts and good vibes.

Friday we are driving down to Baltimore with the kids - we are going to visit David's father and step mother. I have spent way to much money this week so I won't be visiting any of the cool LYS in the area. But we made our big vacation plans for Sept tonight 4 Nights in Las Vegas at Luxor ( I am just an Egypt geek) 2 nights in Zion National Park and 4 nights in Salt Lake City. If any one knows of good LYS in or around these areas - drop me a note - we will be doing a lot of driving so anywhere within driving distance is fine.

Thanks to everyone who has entered my contest - I will post the winner on Monday July 4th - so you still have time to leave a comment - just say you want to enter the contest - and win the White Lies Designs Pattern.

Have a wonder Holiday Weekend!

I am not a happy camper

I am blogging to you from the Queens location of my company - I am here because it is the closest location to my home and an easy commute by bus. Why would I need an easy commute by bus you ask? Because my d%$n car is in the shop again. The sensor is bad again. The car freaked on me yesterday - I needed to take it for a drive to reset the computer. The car was shaking, the transmission kept switching gears, the engine was racing - the car freaked. I drove it home and took it back to the shop before work. This time they are ordering a sensor from the dealer, so hopefully it will be fixed for good this time.

and, of course, Henry the horse, dances the waltz

Couldn't think of a title today so I borrowed on from John Lennon.

I have been pattern happy recently - Look:

Why is it that no matter how many patterns you own - you never have one that works with the yarn you want to use?

Any way, see that teal and lavender pattern by White Lies Designs - Well I bought it about a week ago - received it right away too - when the other day in the mail I received it again! So I emailed Joan and said she had sent it to me twice - did she want me to send it back? Lovely woman that she is, she said no - give it to another knitter who would like it. Since I couldn't decide who to gift it to I decided to hold a CONTEST

Being the comment ho that I am - if you would like this pattern - leave me a comment - next week I will take everyone's names and pick one out of a hat.

Green loveliness & the Summer of Lace

Feeling a little better after yesterday's funk - I'm still broke and still p#ssed I have to pay to replace a sensor that in no way is effecting the safety or drivability of my car. But I got to play with yarn all day and that improved my outlook immeasurably!

I wanted to make something yesterday - I wanted a complete project start to finish, so I took that lovely green mohair that Trixie sent me ( I have be fondling this yarn since I received it) There was only one skein and I wanted to keep it pure- what to do? what to do? There was only one thing to do - grabbed the Crochet Stitch Bible and a couple of large hooks ('cause nothing says instead gratification like a large hook) and whipped this up:

Crochet Lace! I want to get a longer ribbon and weave it all around the neck, but otherwise it is done - took all of maybe 3 hours.

One more - please ignore my funky colored bathroom - it came with the apartment.

Cash out the window

Argghhh!!! I took my car in to get inspected today. I figured $45 tops for the inspection -my car runs fine and I do all my scheduled maintenance. But no - my check engine light is on (I already had it checked out - the sensor is bad - the car is fine) Well with the new inspection machines - if the check engine light is on - the car automatically fails! So now I have to replace the sensor: $300 + labor. I am bummed! I was going to go to the Renegade Craft fair in Brooklyn this weekend, instead I will be schlepping my car back to the mechanic and drastically reducing my savings.

The only good thing to come out of this is I took the day off today to take my car in so I will have lots of free time to work on my knitting.

But I am still bummed.

Dust in the Wind

I am sitting in my office, eating my lunch and listening to Q104.3 on my computer and Dust in the Wind starts playing and I realize that on this date in 1979 I graduated from Stella Maris HS in Rockaway Beach.

You are probably asking "Why would that song remind you of your HS graduation?" Well dear readers, that song was picked out as our class song for Ring Day. For some unknown (and probably alcohol influenced) reason the ring day committee thought this was an appropriate song for a bunch of Catholic School girls leaving the safety of an all girl HS and going out into the real word.

Same old song
Just a drop of water in an endless sea
All we do
Crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind, ohh

Makes you want to run right out there and live it up, doesn't it?

Now, don't hang on
Nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky
It slips away
And all your money won't another minute buy
Dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind
All we are is dust in the wind

Yeah - that was a real happy day!

Anyone wonder why I never looked back on HS with fondness and nostalgia?

On the knitting front - worked another pattern repeat on the lace leaf shawl - I can't wait to wear this - it yarn has such a lovely drape.

I worked a little on the Mystery Stole, but not enough to show any real progress.

This past weekend was the Boy Scout Family Picnic in Hempstead Lake State Park and I fun time was had by all - I brought my knitting and spent much of the afternoon in a comfy chair under a shady tree - heaven!

I made these to take and everyone loved them! I made about 100 mini cupcakes and they were all gone by 3:00pm. These were really yummy - I want to try them with different cake mix pudding combos. The cupcakes were moist and light and really really good!

Tonight I am taking David to Target to pick out his Father's Day gift and I want to look around and see want fun stuff is to be had. I love Target - it's like those 5 & 10 cent stores I loved as a kid - I always find something I want in Target.

Friday - thank the Goddess

I have woken up every day this week with a head ache - the "sick to your stomach, shut the lights, stop yelling" kind of headache. And I am out of Excedrin - can't wait till lunch so I can go buy more.

Had an interesting conversation with David last night - question ladies do all men think everything is solved by sex? He was telling me about one of the females at work who is -shall we say a little moody - the men were having a hard time figuring out why - she has a boyfriend and was obviously having sex - so why wasn't she happy? I tried to explain that while sex was wonderful - it didn't guarantee a good mood - or anything else for that matter! His response was that it worked for him - yeah him and just about every other man on the planet - but it takes more than that for most women. He didn't understand and my head hurt too much to continue the conversation, so we went to bed.

I got a little bit more work done on the Mystery Stole last night and today I bought this cause I just had to have it.

Another Monday

This was a really good weekend! Friday I met Illanna of knit powers to peace. at Barnes & Noble in Forest Hills - we are both doing the Mystery Stole KAL - her yarn is gorgeous - red merino that looks and feels like cashmere - totally yummy.

Saturday I drove to Brooklyn to drop off some yarn to a lovely lady who is starting a knit/crochet group for kids in her area, from there I decided to go to Yarnivore, but there was no one there, undaunted I moved on to The Yarn Tree, which was open - and mercifully - air conditioned! - I spent some money there. I bought 2 skeins of alpaca/pima cotton in a soft peach color, bamboo needles, a present for my crochetville SP and just drooled over the beautiful wools that were there. I used my 10% coupon from the Brooklyn Fleece Festival.

Sunday I finished Clue #2 for the Mystery Stole - knitting with that yarn is like knitting with sewing thread - I can barely make out the pattern. It is soooo light and airy - I think it will be lovely when it is finished. Spent the rest of my day working on the Lace Leaf shawl - I can't wait to finish this - it I really like the way it is working up.

While I was with Illanna Friday - she mentioned this craft Festival in Brooklyn on the 25 & 26th - The Renegade Craft Fair - It looks like lots of fun. If anyone is interested in going drop me a note.

Well it's back to work for me...........

Changed my hairstyle so many times now....

Don't know what I look like.

Cut it all off again - short, cool & comfortable - I will never have the long flowing locks of my dreams - you know fairy princess hair - instead I am a pixie or at least I have pixie hair - wish I had the pixie dust too.

I left work a little early today - my allergies have been making me crazy this week and I just felt like crap - when I got home though, this was waiting for me:

From my Crochetville SP - a shawl to keep the a/c at work off my neck(my favorite shade of green for the summer), a fuzzy scarf in a gorgeous dark teal, cool citrus basil cologne & soap and a silk bath mitt - definitely made me feel better! Thank you Secret Pal!

I finally finished the first clue to the Mystery Stole:

Tomorrow clue #2 will be posted - I am meeting another KALer tomorrow night at FH B&N - I am looking forward to that - I rarely get to meet other knitters around here.

I think it is looking pretty good.

I made something special for my SP but I can't post any pics cause I don't know if she reads my blog - all I can say is it is really cool and I will be making more of these soon!

gotta run - I have some sewing to do for the kidlets.

Weekend Update

The best part of Friday is the free time I have while David and the boys are at Boyscouts - I love having the apt to myself.

This was a pretty good week - got a lot done at work, found a new author I really love and found this in the mail from Trixie ( who is a non-knitter!):

This yarn is so pretty! and just my color too - soft, sagey green. I have wanted to read this book for a while - this package made my week.

I ordered a few books from Amazon last week - now that school is finished I have time to read for pleasure again. I am a voracious reader - I will read almost anything - as long as it is well written - I have no patience for sloppy writings. One of the books Amazon recommended was "Dead Witch Walking" by Kim Harrison - it looked interesting - so I ordered it, along with "The Jupiter Myth" by Lindsey Davis - I love historical mysteries and hers are the best! Well I loved DADA - I finished it in a day - I ran out to B&N and bought the follow up "The Good, the Bad and the Undead. Finished that last night - the third book - Every Which Way but Dead is due out this month and you know I will be buying that too!
Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I also picked up - "Dead Until Dark" by Charlaine Harris - What can I say - I am in a supernatural mood!

I also got this in the mail:

I had preordered it from Amazon a while ago and it finally came - there are some great patterns in here - I mentioned this before - but today I received my elann newsletter and it had 2 perfect yarns in there that will work perfect for 2 patterns I want to make in this book - Pakucho Organic Cotton for Stacy and Silk City Perle for Pennina - I love the cover sweater too - it is made from Classic Elite Star - a cotton lycra blend worsted wt yarn - can anyone recommend an alternate for this? If anyone is making this - what yarn are you using?

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
Here is the yarn and also the Stitches East catalog - there are a few classes I would really like to take - One on Japanese Shortrows, Beaded Shawlette & The Art of Knitting Backwards - I don't know if I will be able to attend any, but it would be fun.

Well the D & the boys will be home soon and I want to work some more on my shawl...later......
