AWOL

This has been a really stressful weekend - On Friday the nursing home called - they had sent my mother to the hospital. Her heart rate was very low and they wanted to monitor it. She was there in the Emergency room for hours, they finally got her into a room, but her heart rate did not regulate so they moved her to MICU and scheduled her for a pacemaker which she received today. According to her doctor if everythings goes well and her heartrate stabilizes they will release her back to the nursing home.

If that is the case, then I leave for FLA Wednesday morning and while I will have my computer and will be checking my email, I doubt I will have time to post. I have to tell you I am so tired - I can barely keep my eyes open. I didn't sleep well last night and was up really early so I could head over to the hospital this morning, I was dozing as I was sitting in my mothers room. I was so out of it I dented my car today in the parking lot of Stop and Shop cause I misjudged the space between the column and my car. I am going to watch the rest of the Ranger game and crawl into bed.

For Sale

My brother called to tell me that his sofa and love seat will not fit in his new apt and did I know anyone who was interested in buying them. I told him I would ask around. Soooo - if anyone out there is looking for a sofa and loveseat in a green/rust pattern this is your lucky day - he will take your best offer all you have to do is pick it up this month in Ridgewood, NY. Yes it has been very long since my last post - I have been very busy at work and haven't finished any knit or crochet projects, though I have made some more jewelry. My Romantic Cardi is almost done - I need one more skein to finish the sleeve trim and it will be done.

The first picture is the thread crochet cardi which is coming along really well - its slow but steady work. I have been taking it with me when I visit my mother at the nursing home, she likes to watch me crochet and it helps pass the time when she doesn't feel like talking. The second picture is the first sleeve and my progress on the second sleeve of A Good Bias. I should have this finished before spring.

I am looking forward to my FLA trip in 2 weeks, I have been shopping a lot for this trip. Thursday night is a formal award dinner - I found this dress for sale on line:

I am using some olive chenille I have in my stash - the dress has a very low back so I really need some cover.

We had a meeting at Chelsea Piers yesterday and today - this was the first time I have bee there - wow - I remember when there was nothing there that anyone would want to go to. It was a great place for a meeting and the team building activities where fun. The only thing I didn't do was the rock climbing - I really wanted to but there was not way I was going to squeeze into that harness and hang there with my co-workers staring at my butt! Once I lose enough weight I am definitely going to try that, it looked like a lot of fun.

Tomorrow we are taking the boys to Dave and Busters to celebrate their birthday since we didn't do anything last month. Sunday I am going to lunch with my girlfriends, that will be fun we haven't gotten together in a while. I also need to buy a new pair of jeans for my trip too - I'll try to do that this weekend too.

Well, David is telling me it is bedtime so I will log off now - Just want to say hi to Miss Sterious - I got both your postcards today - they are so cool! Annapurna is the Goddess I most identify with - food and cooking are very important to me.

So many projects, so much yarn, such a short attention span

Last night I went to the LIC Knit group at Communitea on Vernon Blvd - it was fun, I love meeting other knitters. I definitely plan on going again!

Progress Update:
I brought A Good Bias with me last night - I am hoping to finish this before I leave for FLA March 22 - I am pretty sure I will make it.

I should have the romantic cardi finished by this weekend - I had to upsize it a little and the rows are now taking what feels like forever to complete, but the end is in site.

I think I mentioned that I had bought some silk lace wt yarn from HipKnits here is the yarn:
I have a slightly smaller skein ~1200-1300 meters. This is the project I am considering:
You can see the pattern here - I wanted to try something really challenging with this - I think I can continue the swirl portion of the pattern and use larger needles so that I can make a circular shawl out of this. I will keep you posted once I cast on. If anyone has tried and (hopefully succeeded) in making a shawl out of a doily pattern, drop me a note and let me know how it worked out and if you have any tips on how not to make my self crazy with this - I would truly appreciate it!

I know the picture of the shawl is a little bright, but I really love the Feather and Fan stitch and with this pattern I can just knit till I run out of yarn - I think it will look gorgeous in the LL

The thread crochet cardi is looking good, slow going but very relaxing to work on.

The FBS I am knitting in the Alpaca/Angora blend is still on the needles as is the Spiral Nebula from the Alpaca I picked up in Rhinebeck - some day they will be done. I should really finish them before I start anything else - I know I having knitting ADD and I really need to finish something before I finish anything else!

Thursday I don’t care about you - It's Friday I'm in Love

I came home today from a long and stress-filled day at work and found a box in my mail - it was a box o'goodies from my SP:



Filled to the brim with wondrous delights - 3 skeins of Lorna's Laces is a beautiful magenta/olive/rust colorway called Vera, Ghiradelli dark chocolate squares, a CD of California Music, Tangerine lip balm, a Bead Soup bracelet kit from Earth Faire and a really cool black embroidered bag. Everything was perfect - I couldn't have picked out anything better myself!

I also received the second mixed CD from the music swap:

appropriately called Mixed CD of Happy - it is full of fun upbeat songs - me likes:-)

Tonight we celebrated the boys birthday (it was on Valentine's Day) went to Pizza Hut for dinner then came home and had ice cream cake:


at least David and the boys did - I had a piece of dark chocolate - so good!

I think my next project will be this new yarn - a small shawl - maybe another FBS - I love that pattern - we will see.

The woman's team has come up with an unusual way to promote interest in their sport.

Every Winter Olympics I am glued to the set, weirdly fascinated by the 45 lb granite rocks sliding down the ice. Please someone 'splain it to me!!!

Men's Hockey starts tomorrow - yeah - I sport I love and am not ashamed to admit to.

In other news, I receive the silk lace wt I ordered from Hip Knits in Chocco - it is lovely and so soft and shiny, the skein I ordered is not a full150g - it is roughly 1200 - 1300 meters. I am planning to make a light shawl for the spring - any suggestions would be appreciated!

I joined a music swap - we had to make a cd and send it out to 2 people from the swap list - I mailed mine out last week but forgot to include the list of what was on the CD - today one of my swap partners left a comment asking for the info - so I am posting it here for both of them to see. On my end I recieved a CD of Deee - Lite So cool - I have been haveing a blast dancing around the apt. to Groove is in the Heart! Thank You!!!

Snow Day

Well we finally got snow this winter - here is the view from my front door:


I saw a pair of earrings in Lucky magazine that I loved, so I decided to try to make something similar - what do you think?

I bought enough beads to make a necklace too. I want to see if I can find some material with similar colors to make a nice summer dress - something with a vintage print - I know what I want I just have to see if I can find it.

La Vie en Rose

So much going on here - I found a nursing home for my mother - my brother is no longer speaking to me, work is making me crazy and I am very very tired. I thought I would have this weekend to myself - David and the boys were going camping - they left last night, but came back tonight due the the blizzard we are expecting. My apartment is in desperate need of a total deep cleaning and my closets are jammed full of clothes I really need to get rid of.

I didn't join the knitting olympics - I have too many things on my needles as it is, but I did see on someone's blog the FO olympics - that I can get behind. I took out the bag with my A Good Bias I had only a few rows to finish on the first sleeve, which I did tonight and started on the second sleeve - I want to finish it and take it to Fla next month - the Sales dept is going to Orlando for the annual sales meeting. I bought 2 very cute skirts from Dress Barn and I picked up some matching beads from AC Moore - now all I need is a cocktail dress and new shoes.

I can't wait for the hockey to start in Torino - I am a winter olympics fan - I love hockey and snowboarding followed by ice skating and skiing - speed skating and mogul not so much. I root for everybody and love when an unexpected athlete wins. The only thing I don't like are the commentators and the judges - they are both so biased and not in a good way!
