Ok, so maybe it is not that hot out, but it is close. Of course I am now sitting in my office, wearing a fleece jacket over my sundress and my portable heater is on under my desk - that doesn't change the fact that it really is 100 degrees out. The A/C in my building is a little wacked - in the back by the conference rooms, where my office is - is freezing!! But up front where the branch office and the counter are - not so much. The warehouse is a sweatbox.
I have no a/c in my car and normally that does not bother me, see I never planned on Global Warming being part of my car buying decision process. It was so hot driving home last night I was actually feeling a little woosey; when I got home, I jumped in a cool shower and put my pj's on. It was too hot to even go knit with the LIC SnB - the thought of getting dressed again and getting back in my Korean torture devise commonly know as a Hyundai was just too much. I stayed on my sofa with the a/c on going through the new interweave Knits. There are a few patterns in there I would like to make especially the Wonderlust Hoodie and the Swallowtail Shawl. I love when new knit mags show up in my mail.
Tonight I have to run out to the store w/David - he went shopping for work clothes yesterday for his new rr job, he also picked up work boots - 'cept they are 2 different boots and they are both left feet. Now I know he had 2 left feet, but buying boots to fit em won't help that problem.
On another note - one of the women in my SnB makes jewelry and has opened and Etsy shop - check out Susan's work - it is lovely.

Vacation, all I ever needed, Vacation had to get away
Sorry I haven't posted sooner - I have been trying to catch up on 2 weeks of work as well as attend 3 days of meetings in Manhattan. AHHHHH!!!!
Our flight left Long Beach Sunday night at 9:45 pm and we landed at Kennedy at 6 am Monday morning. The boys mother picked us up at the airport and drove all of us back to Brooklyn to pick up David's car. We got home and went to bed, eventually I woke up and checked my email and I have been working ever since. I haven't even downloaded my pictures yet.
The trip was great - I love San Francisco and wished we had spent more time there - but by the end of the trip I was looking forward to getting home. The boys were restless and bored with all the driving. I told David that next time we take the kids on vacation, it should be a short trip to a beachfront location instead of all the road trip type vacations that they get tired of.
I only managed to get to 1 yarn shop - Rumplestiltskin in Sacramento, which was a very nice shop - I bought a set of short wood DPN's - no yarn. I have way too much stash and no room for more.
Although, I will be getting some more yarn soon, Melissa W - neoknits - the amazingly talented designer of the Grannie Smith Sweater, Sesame , Lux- both available at magknits, and Lucky from Stitch & Bitch Nation, has asked me to test knit a new pattern she has written for Sundara Yarn!! I can't talk to much about it, other than to say it is a kimono style cardigan and the yarn that Melissa used for the design was truly lovely. She said it was a pleasure to work with and I know the color was gorgeous and that she really enjoyed working with it. I can't wait to see what mine looks like; I requested autumn colors and I will post of picture of the yarn when Sundara sends it to me. I will have to have it finished by the middle of August, so it will be my only project until it is finished.
Next time I will have vacation and hopefully yarn pictures.

We are leaving Sacramento today, heading to Oakland and San Francisco.

But dont look back in anger I heard you say
It has been over 56 hours since we boarded this train in Chicago – right now we are somewhere between Truckee, CA and Colfax, CA in the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The scenery is amazing, but I am so ready to get off this train. The trip so far has been mostly fun, Robert and Jeff are behaving themselves and are only now getting bored and cranky. David is in the car across from me playing Skittles checkers on the snack table with Jeff and Robert is napping in my car while I type this out.
We crossed into California about 4 hours ago – we just passed through Alta, the next stop is Colfax, then Roseville and finally Sacramento – we are about 2 hours late. We were supposed to arrive in Sacramento at 2:15, and it is now 4:20. The scenery changed dramatically once we left Nevada, the scrub becoming greener and the trees becoming taller and evergreen. I love the mountains and ifwasn'tasn’t so tired of being on this train, I would really appreciate the view. I have taken a lot of pictures on the train, having discovered the stop motion setting on my camera that allows me to take very clear pictures from the moving train. – When we get to the hotel and I have access to the internet, I will upload them and this post to blogger. We will be spending the next 2 days in Sacramento, then 2 days in Oakland/SF area before making our way south to Tehatchapi and Irvine.
It is now 11pm Sunday night - we finally arrived in Sacramento at 6:30 by the time we got our luggage and checked into the hotel it was after 7 - it took David over an hour to get a lift to the airport to pick up our rental car - a suburu outback and by the time we had dinner is was almost 10:30. But we are back in our room now, looking forward to a good nights sleep on a bed wider than 48" and not moving!
Tomorrow we will explore Sacramento and the surrounding area and I will have pictures to post too.

I can see the Russian army rolling through my head On one side of me lies the enemy, the other half is dead
I feel like that migraine commercial on TV - suddenly a 10 ton boulder just landed on the right side of my head.
Still haven't found my USB cord, so no photo updates. I went to the hospital last night after work, all the test were negative so they sent her back to the nursing home last night - I went to visit her on my lunch. I try to get there during the week, but it is not easy - I only get a 40 minute lunch and it takes about 15 minutes to drive there. She was glad to be back among her own things, so that was good, she seemed in a better mood.
I never managed to make to LIC last night, by the time I got home and made dinner for David, it was almost 7 and I just didn't feel like going anywhere anymore. I put my jammies on, made cold noodles with sesame sauce and went through my knitting books trying to match up all the yarn I have with appropriate patterns. It was a pleasant evening.
I have tomorrow and Friday off - Jeff is graduating tomorrow and Friday we are driving down to my FIL in Baltimore. Maybe I can get David to stop at A Good Yarn - not that I need anything but I like to look and there is a train store in Baltimore we always stop at, I will ask him to drop me of at the yarn shop while he goes and looks at train parts (yawn).
The graduation is in the afternoon tmrw so I will be free in the evening - I can get some more knitting done on Krista.

How many special people change How many lives are living strange
I have misplaced my USB cable so no pictures to post.
This was one of those jumbled weekends, Friday I baked cookies for the Boy Scouts and Saturday was the Family Picnic. A fun time was had by all and I had plenty of time to knit on Krista - I am using the ribbon yarn I picked up at Smileys sale a few weeks ago. I haven't stopped knitting on my Likker'd Up Granny - I do a few rows almost everynight - it's just that mohair and humidity do not mix. Besides, I want to take Krista on vacation - we are leaving July 6, so I think I can finish it by then.
Saturday night at 11:40 the nursing home called - my mother hit another patient and tried to hit the nurse, they called to tell me they were sending her to LIJ for testing because her mental state had changed. On Thursday, they had called to tell me they moved her room because she was fighting with one of her room mates. This is not the first time this has happened - every so often she gets very agitated and mean, she once tried to hit me with her cane, and when she was in day care she started fighting with the other members there too. Eventually she gets over it, but it is not pleasant. I went to the hospital Sunday morning and spoke to the Doctor - they did a cat scan and a battery of neurological exams to make sure the personality change did not have a physiological cause - I told him about her past behavior and he said if the tests are all negative, they will review her meds - right now she is on zyprexa, an anti psychotic, but her dosage may need to be adjusted. I stayed with her till the nurses aid came in to wash and change her. She didn't remember anything and only wanted to talk about my glasses - for some reason she has fixated on my glasses lately.
When I left the hospital, I went back home and David and I drove over to the Renegade Craft Fair in Brooklyn. There were so many things I wanted,but on my very tight and limited budget, I just bought a wooden bead bracelet. I saw some wonderful fabrics and yarns and notions, but I restrained my self. There was a needlepoint photo album kit that I would have loved, and many many bags that would have be lovely to own, oh and I really wish I knew some babies - they had the cutest baby stuff!
After melting in the heat, I took David out for a father's day dinner - we went to Sizzler, of course. But he enjoyed it, so that is all that matters.
Tonight, after work I am running over to the hospital again, to see if they got back all the results and how long they are planning to keep her there. I hope I can make it to the LIC Knits group tonight - I am really fortunate to have found such a talented, fun and unique group of knitters! They are a bright spot in an otherwise dull and mundane week.

On Sunday Morning You sure have changed since yesterday Without any warning
This weekend has flown by! I feel like I have done nothing and it is already Sunday night. managed to get out and get my hair cut Saturday morning - I am really pleased with the way it turned up - it is really more of a trim than a cut - I am letting it grow and needed the ends trimmed and a good shaping - she did a very nice job and it now dries with the curls all smooth and shapely.
I I did do a little knitting this weekend - I worked on the Big Girl Knits tank Saturday at the nursing home visiting my mother. I always take an easy project with me to fill in the time while Clara sleeps or zones out on me, she really can't keep up a conversation for more than a few minutes anymore before drifting off. After the nursing home I stopped at AC Moore - all beads and beading supplies are 30% so I bought some silver hoops and coral beads, some turquoise glass beads too. I made a cute pair of earrings. After AC Moore I went to Smiley's to pick up the size 3 & 4 circular needles I wanted. I switched from the bamboo straights to the circular needles on my likker'd up granny.
Then it was home to do a little house work and wait for David and the boys to come home from their hike. Today was a lazy day, David, Robert and Jeff were exhausted and achy from yesterday's hike so all three of them slept in late and moped around the apartment this morning. Sunday used to be my favorite day of the week - David went back to work and I had the day to myself. Now that he is retired, he is home and underfoot and we have had the boys the last 2 weeks - I miss my Sundays!
