Just another Manic Monday

I am sitting here at work, patiently waiting for the snow to come. This is not making me happy as I will probably have a 3hr commute home tonight. At least I was able to move my car this morning so I will not get plowed in - not that I plan on driving anywhere anytime soon.

I had mentioned before, that my office here in the city is closing and I am relocating to our office in Queens. This is our last month here and things have gotten really really slow. I am looking forward to being busy again.

The cape is coming along nicely - I really can't visualize how it is going to work up - but the pattern is really easy and portable, so I can take it on the bus with me. I can't do that with the FBS or Mariah - Speaking of FBS - I think I can finish it by next weekend - so the next picture will be a FO!

I only watched about an hour of the Oscar's last night while crochetting the shawl - I thought Cate Blanchette, Hilary Swank and Virginia Madsen looked amazing, but I the whole I was not impressed, although can we say black looks like the new black.

Sunday, That's My Fun Day....

Another fun weekend here at knitwitch. Yesterday David, the boys and I drove up to Conn. to the Submarine Museum in Groton.

We had a lovely day just riding around. I took a picture of this bridge 'cause I thought is was cool:
I brought the cape pattern from Lionbrand - It was the hands down favorite. Very, very easy pattern to make, I will post pics when I have a little bit more done.

Today I went to Michael's - I have a $25 gift cert. It turns out I don't have enough yarn to finish the shawl I was making for my Crochetville swap partner so I had to pick out something else. The yarn I was using is from Elann and there is none left so a change was necessary. I bought some yarn I think will be perfect for my swap buddy. I also bought some more beading supplies. I cut out a 40% coupon and bought myself this:
It is a beading board, I also bought more beads to make this: - it is for a fellow RAOK'r - I will be mailing it out tmrw.

Tonight it is crocheting with Oscar. I haven't seen any of the nominated movies - can't tell you what the last movie I saw was, but I love looking at the clothes and jewelry - that is the best part.

3rd time lucky

When I got home tonight the mailman had once again dropped off a goody package from my Crochetville Secret Pal:
Hosted by Photobucket.com
5 skeins of homespun in Tudor a very pretty purple/teal/green/cream combo, 2 more CD's: How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb and the Garden State soundtrack. I am downloading the music as I type. Secret Pal you are amazing!!

I went looking and found 2 patterns that I like for this yarn:

Is it Friday yet?

After spending all day yesterday in a Thera-flu induced coma, I am now back at work and functioning (barely). I won't bore you with list of my ailments, suffice it to say I am not really all here. No knitting was done yesterday - hopefully I will be able to remember the difference between knitting and purling tonight and get some more work done.

All the stuff I have been meaning to post...

Catchy title, huh? After blogger kept eating the end of my last post, I decided I was just too sick to deal with it and left it alone for a while. I still feel like crap, the pernicious evil ( for those familiar with TCM) has settled in my lungs - I should be coughing one up soon, [edit - blogger just ate most of this post too, so it is a lot shorter than originally planned - I am too tired to retype the whole thing]

but I wanted to finish thanking Rebecca at http://itgirl2.blogspot.com for the wonderful RAOK she sent me:
which included a whole bunch of this:
that I have been drinking gallons of in an effort to feel better. Thank you!

I also want to thank my Crochetville SP - she sent me the most awesome gift - Green Day's American Idiot! I immediately uploaded it to my computer and MP3 player and have been happily listening to it ever since. SP you ROCK!

TGIF...

because I seem to have finally gotten the contagious pathogen making its way around blogland. Gives new meaning to computer virus, eh?

David and I had a great day yesterday - there was not much happening on the rails so we went to Saratoga for lunch, we ended up in Utica for dinner and managed to get home before 10:30 last night. I didn't stop at any of the yarn shops I wanted to visit- we either passed them before they opened or after they closed. Still it was a fun day with my sweetie and to assuage any fiberless feelings I was having - I came home to a package from the thoughtful package from

Wednesday update

Yeah it is Wednesday - I have a vacation day tmrw - David and I are driving up to Albany for the day. If anyone knows of good LYS between NYC and Albany - let me know. I have had the Periwinkle Sheep in Albany recommended, so I am planning on stopping there. I will be bringing the FBS with me to work on while David watches trains go by. David has been on vacation all week - as a member of the NYPD he gets a ridiculous # of vacation days, since I don't get nearly as many I am only taking 1 day off to spend with him.

Last night I met my friend Sharon for dinner, we went to a very nice place on 43rd & 9th Ave - Zuni - I would definitely recommend it - delicious food, great service and excellent prices. I had a wonderful grilled Mediterranean Salad and Sharon had the grilled Mahi Mahi.

When I got home, the new issues of Interweave Knits and Knitters arrived. There are lots of things I like in IK, not as much in Knitters.

Will have pictures later.

Happy Valentine's Day

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I know I enjoyed mine. This was one of those "only once in a while" good weekends. Friday night we took the boys to Sizzler for their birthday - I can't believe they are 13 today - when I met David they were only 21 months old. We had a nice dinner - Sizzler is the boys favorite restaurant - they love the salad bar. They opened their gifts when we got home - they like them all. Saturday I made biscuits and gravy for breakfast - then left the guys home and went shopping. Bought a great new knitting bag (pic later) and stopped at Smiley's just to look - they are having a sale next week so I will buy then. Went to the best Colombian Bakery in Queens for coffee and sweet bread with guava. The best thing about living in NYC is the variety of food that is available everywhere - I wanted the bread for breakfast on Sunday with my new Adagio tea (LOVE their tea)

Sat afternoon, Marilyn and her husband came over, we had a small cake for the boys - and since we hadn't seen each other since before Christmas, we exchanged Christmas gifts too. She is the best - she and Robert bought me Knit & Crochet with Beads and Knitting Without Tears! We all went out to dinner at Pizza Hut. We do not get to spend enough time together, so it was lovely spending a whole evening with them. Sunday started David's vacation, so he was home. I spent the morning at my mothers then David and I drove out to the Island for paint for his models and just drove around enjoying the sunny weather.

Last night I stayed up to watch the Grammy's because I wanted to see Melissa Etheridge, she ROCKED and got to bed way to late and am paying for it this morning. So please forgive the rambling post I did not sleep well last night at all.

My shopping spree and Valentine Gift

Ox & Snake in Rooster, or....

What the Chinese know that western astrologers don't. This is my Chinese horoscope for the year of the Rooster:

Ox
After a couple of grueling years, you will (at last!) feel understood. Roosters and Oxen get along like two houses on fire. Your diligence will be rewarded. Thrilling progress is on the immediate horizon. Money (because you’re so naturally thrifty) will be plentiful. Enduring romantic love is in the air. Marry up with a right-thinking Rooster or a gorgeous Snake. People of those two signs were born on your wave length.
-- Suzanne White,Tarot.com/Astrology

I was born in the year of the OX and David is a Snake (in this case, that is a good thing!)

Last night, we had a lovely evening at the Mall - for once it was not crowded and we were able to meander through without rushing. We picked up some good stuff for the boys and, since I had a $50 gift certificate to Macy's that has been burning a hole in my wallet since Christmas, we went to Macy's. Now most of you do not know David or me, but my love of shopping is in inverse proportion to David's lack of said emotion. David doesn't shop, he buys. I, on the other hand can shop for hours and not buy anything. Anyway back to my story - I decided I wanted a new pocketbook (I am obsessed by pocketbooks- oh yeah and shoes), so we go the the bag/shoe dept and ---- they are having a BIG sale - I am in heaven, David's eyes are glazing over. I look, I pick, I pick something else, I look some more. I check every bag on every shelf in the whole dept and David... does nothing, doesn't complain, doesn't tell me to hurry up or get annoyed with me. He just waits patiently while I finally come to a decision and buy the pinky/dark rose Nine West bag at 25% off. (pics later). And we walk out of the store hand in hand to the parking lot.

In the car, he suggested we go to the diner by the apt for dinner (it is kind of our spot). We spend a lovely dinner together celebrating V-Day now I/o next week because of the boys birthday. Oh yeah and I got this.

Oh yeah 2 - David is a Virgo and I am a Sagittarius, which is not a great match up - I like the Chinese version much better!

HOT STONE MASSAGE

Yesterdays workshop was incredible! You can not image how comforting and wonderful this massage is. There were 14 therapists there, it was really crowded and we kept blowing the fuse so we had to turn off 2 of the roasters. Oh course mine was one of them, so me and my partner had to share some else's hot stones. But aside from that minor inconvenience, it was a great class. I can not wait to start offering this service. It is such a treat for the client and the therapist. It is almost a spiritual experience, you just relax and open up and float away - truly amazing!!

Unfortunately, I was exhausted by the time I got home - all I did was eat and go to bed, so this was a non knitting weekend. I started Mariah on Friday, but only just started chart B so there is really no progress yet. I wanted to swatch my Moscow Pink Peace fleece for Must Have Too, maybe after David and I get back from shopping tonight. It's the boys birthday next week and we are going gift shopping out to Roosevelt Field tonight. Which cool, cause one of the therapists yesterday was using this really wonderful oil, Rosemary Mint - which smelled heavenly!, She bought it in the mall, so I will see if I can find some. Gotta buy something for me too!

That about sums up my weekend - oh and thanks again secret pal - you rock!

PS - If you like really good tea - check out the link for Adagio Tea on my sidebar - really yummy!

Pain, suffering and massage

How's that for a catchy title? Let me explain, yesterday I woke up with the Migraine From Hell - I felt like that Imitrex add where the meteor lands on top of the person! I haven't had one that bad since I went off the Pill ( the hormones made the headaches worse). Spent all of yesterday in the dark with the phones turned off and a towel over my eyes so that the lights and sounds of Saturday wouldn't kill me, though death seemed an improvement over the pain and nausea. I had to cancel all my plans - David and the boys went without me. I wanted to meet my girlfriend Sharon last night - a mutual friend was playing at a bar on the Island, instead I was home praying for the headache to go away and that I wouldn't throw up.

This is way I didn't post yesterday that I received 2 packages in the mail, the first was from my Crochetville Hat swap buddy - a beautiful purple hat and scarf:

The second was from my Secret Pal: Isn't that the coolest needles case?! I love the edging she used as a tie! and the colors are just perfect! If I hadn't felt so crappy yesterday - I would have posted these immediately! Oh and Secret Pal - I don't really have a favorite show - I love CSI and, ssshhhh,..... Desperate Housewives (don't tell anyone ok?) But I always forget when things are on - oh yeah I liked Medium too.

I bet you are wondering where the massage comes in? Well that is today - I have a workshop on Hot Stone Massage which I am leaving for in a few minutes - I am so glad it is today and not yesterday - cause even though I have a post migraine hangover - I feel a million times better than I did yesterday and I can go - I wouldn't have made it on Saturday.

Finally Friday

I am sooo looking forward to this weekend! Not having to get up for work is a wonderful thing! I may have mentioned that I am not a morning person, I really loath getting out of bed before the sun comes up. I have to leave my house by 7am to make the express bus to midtown, this is a constant struggle for me. But the end is in site, my office here in the city is closing at the end of March and I am going back to our Queens office (which, may I add, is only 8 minutes from my apt.) This means I can sleep at least an extra hour every morning!! This makes me very happy. very. happy. Especially after this morning when I had to trudge out in the rain and through the mountains of slush to get to the bus stop!

My needles came yesterday, so I cast on Mariah - haven't gotten very far, will post a pic when there is something to see. I did some more work on they swap shawl - it is looking lovely if I do say so myself. 3 more pattern repeats and the edging and I am done with FBS - I might have a little give-a-way when I am done with that, but more on that later.

Haiku for a Wednesday

I have a wonderful Secret Pal! This morning she dropped me a note to day hi and gave me this haiku:

Autumn leaves that fall
Will hook you and keep you safe
All wrapped up in one

Cool huh? She said it is a hint about goodies to come.

I made up a list of the projects I want to finish in the 1st 1/2 of 2005:

FBS
Mariah
Must Have Cardigan
Crochetville Shawl Swap (my own design)
Bella Paquita - If you have not checked out Marnie's designs - they are awesome
Flueri - new crochetme pattern - I need this bag for the Spring!
Clapotis

That should keep me busy till Spring. I did another pattern repeat on the FBS - I am happy.
My needles didn't come yesterday, so no work on Mariah, ditto on the beads and shawl.

I was feeling really lousy last night - my back was giving me hell (I really need a massage and a new chiropractor) so it was on with the Tiger Balm patch and the Tylenol PM and bed by 9:40, so I did not get as much done as I would have liked.

I need to pick up 2 more things for my SP's Valentine's gift then it is off in the mail.

Later.....

It is now later so - I updated the list to include capotis because this
came in the mail today - it is 81% Rayon and 19% Silk and looks just yummy, perfect for a spring version of the imfamous french madame! Bought from Walnut Creek Farms on ebay and a steal at $15 for the spool (~788 yards)

My beads also arrived,
so I will be crocheting tonight - I want to try them all and see what I like, maybe a combination of 2 or all three.

And, even though my needles did not come and I cant actually work on this, I leave you with a picture of the yarn for Mariah

Isn't it really the color of a live lobster?

Slow day....

My day job is as a inside sales contact for sales dept of a large commercial supply co. Basically I am on the phone all day checking prices, tracking orders and answering questions. These last 2 days the sales dept has been in meetings and my phone is hardly ringing. Gives me time to read the 267 feeds on bloglines.

I heard from my SP - she sounds like a fun person! Actually I heard from both my SP's - SP4 and Crochetville. I think I really lucked out, they are both people I am glad to get to know. I sent a few notes and ecards to my SP's - hope they enjoy them. I am going to work on some gifty mailings this weekend - I have loads of ideas on stuff to send both of them.

I managed to wind 1 ball of live lobster last night - I'll post pic later. Hopefully my needle will arrive today and I can cast on for Mariah - I am doing nothing tonight but knit! Unless my beads show up - then I will crochet too!
